Which digital platform would you use and why?

Along side using Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, if I were to use another digital platform I would choose to use LinkedIn. I think that LinkedIn allows you to look at jobs in your industry/interests and also saves the jobs that you have applied to, which is very helpful for after I have finished college as it may help me find a job in the industry and in a particular field that I enjoy too. Another reason why I would use Linkedin is because I think that the site is really easy to use and to navigate around, its easy to build your profile and gives you advice on how to make your profile look and work better. So overall I think that if I was to use a digital platform it would definitely be LinkedIn, its one of the best ones I have used before and is easy to access too.

Week Commencing 31/10/16

At the start of the week we started off by looking at what sort of scripts we needed to write for the type of film we were creating. As I am producing a documentary I needed to make an AV script. First of all I started looking online at examples of AV scripts to get a good idea of what other people have done for their productions. I then planned out what I needed to put in my AV script; the visuals I want on screen, the narration throughout and sounds, music and FX I want in my film. I made rough notes on what I wanted in each section, I had to think about what shot types I needed throughout my proof of concept and whether I wanted any sound or voiceover.

I then started to fill out each section starting with the narration- I decided that I didn’t want any narration in my proof of concept as I didn’t want there to be too much going off, however this may change in my final film. So for this section I left it blank, I then filled in what visuals I wanted including shot types and set ups were included for example: multi camera set up. I then decided on what sound I wanted, I decided that I would use music in the background throughout and the only other sound will be the voice of the interviewee.

Overall, this week I planned and made my first draft of my AV script, this has helped me think more about exactly what I need to go in my proof of concept. This week has let me organise more of my production and what else I need to plan out for my proof of concept. Next week I will finish off any pre-production I have started and work on finishing off all of my planning.

Week commencing 7/11/16

At the start of the week I made it a priority that I finished off my AV script and made changes to it, I made a few small tweaks to each section so that it had more detail and was more clear to read. I then asked some people in my course and my tutors to look over my work to make sure that it had enough detail on it. Once I finished my AV script I then started my 3rd party list. I made a list of people who I have spoke to who said that they’re willing to be filmed and who want to be in my film. I then narrowed it down to who I want to interview and who I want in my film as extra’s. Creating this list made me more organised and allowed me to work out who was actually going to be in my film and who I will be working with.

I then started off planning which locations I will want to film in, once I had decided on these locations I filled in location recce’s for each place. This allowed me to sort out where I needed to go to film and the planning I needed to do to be able to film at each place. Once I had a good idea of where I will be filming I then knew more about what I wanted in each scene and so I then started my scene breakdowns. This included: the cast I needed for each scene, the extras and atmosphere in the scene, the make up and hair each person needs to have, wardrobe, sound effects including music and any production notes that are needed. Once I finished each scene breakdown I then went through each one to see if I needed to add in any extra details. From doing the scene break downs I now know more about what I need to organise and what I need to make sure the cast and crew know about each scene to ensure everything runs the way it has been planned.

Further on in the week I then made my shot list, I decided on what shot size I needed for each shot, what I needed in each one and how each one lasted for. Once I did this all that was left was to organise the schedule and shooting days. I started off by working out how many weeks I had to do my proof of concept, for each week I then planned out what I needed to do for each day within the weeks. I planned out what pre-production I needed to do and when my deadline was for each part. I then planned out the dates that I wanted to film and how long I needed to edit my film and record any missed shots. Once I finished all of this I went back through and added in dates that I was free for other peoples productions and when I was needed for other films.

Once I had finished my schedule I then knew roughly what days I need to shoot my scenes, so I then started on my ‘shooting day’ sheet. This meant me organising with the rest of the course who was free to work with me on each day, I planned to have 3 people in total on each day of shooting; camera op, sound op, director/sound op/camera op. Once all of this planning was finished all that was left was my call sheets and risk assessment sheets. I made sure that I finished these sheets by the end of the week so that I had enough time next week for other planning and also so I could start filming and working on other films too.

Overall this week has been really busy but has paid off a lot, I am very organised now and know exactly what I want from my proof of concept. I look forward to filming next week.

Week commencing 14/11/16

This week I worked purely on planning out my film and my shooting days. I made sure that all of my crew had a shooting days sheet so they knew of when they were needed and what they needed to bring, I also handed my cast and crew the call sheets too. I made a few small tweaks to the pre-production to make sure that it fitted my filming plans and once everything was organised I could then start the shoot.

On Thursday I planned to shoot cutaway shots at Georgia’s house with my cast and crew: Henry, Maddy, Georgia and me. On the call sheets I gave the cast and crew it specified the transport etc for them to get to Georgia’s house, Henry and me travelled to Georgia’s house in Henry’s car. We planned to get to Georgia’s house for 9am however due to traffic and road diversions we arrived at Georgia’s house for 10:30am, putting us an hour and a half behind schedule. Due to the set back we set up filming straight away even though some of the crew (Maddy) didn’t arrive on time either. We had plans to go to town at 12am to shoot the rest of the cutaway shots however the weather got really windy and rainy and so we couldn’t take the equipment out without it getting damaged. So we then had more time to shoot the cutaways at Georgia’s house however we then needed to think about when we could film the other shots we had planned to do. We collected all the shots we needed from Georgia’s house and took the equipment back to college. Not everything went to plan when shooting but we did get a lot of footage that I can edit into the interview.

For the rest of the week I spent time looking through the footage that we got from Thursday and deleted the ones that I didn’t need or couldn’t use (I had this noted down on tracking sheets.) I also worked on my social media pages, uploading ‘sneak peak’ shots, letting my audience know any updates and uploading pictures to show what I was doing on my film. I also started planning out the sheets I needed for other shooting days I had coming up.

Overall this week has been very busy and certain things haven’t gone to plan and so next week I will plan out when I can reschedule shooting and make sure that everyone in my crew are able to film with me on a different date to get the shots done.

Week commencing 21/11/16

At the start of the week I planned out timings etc I needed to set up for shooting my interview with Georgia on Tuesday. I printed out any sheets and documents I would need for shooting and the cast and crew would need to stay up to date with what is happening on the day. I updated my social media so that my audience were updates and made a list of all the equipment I would need for shooting my interview and booked out the equipment.

On Tuesday I shot my interview in the TV studio with Georgia, with help from Dylan who helped me with sound and camera. As I finished my interview on time and had some spare time lot over I put all of the footage on my computer and had a look through the shots I got. I then put them onto Final Cut Pro- so it was ready for me to start editing.

Further on in the week I looked through my footage to see what the shots were like that I got at the start of the week. I realised that I may need to shoot some more footage and maybe more cutaways too, so I started a rough edit to see what it would look like with the footage I already had.

Overall this week I got a lot of my filming done and it allowed me to start a rough edit. I have been able to work out what else I need to do with filming and post production too so next week I will be able to shoot any extra shots I need and plan and carry on editing my POC.

Week commencing 28/11/16

At the start of the week I carried on with my rough edit on Final Cut Pro, after doing this I then planned out what footage I need to add to make it better. I planned to film more interview shots with Georgia for Tuesday and booked out equipment and the TV studio that I would need to use.

On Tuesday I filmed the interviews with Georgia again to get more footage for my edit, after transferring it all to my computer I realised how low quality it looked and how and how the lighting looked drastically different to the other shots I had. Doing this has made me think more about planning and what I need to do for my final film, I will make sure to shoot everything on one day and make sure that I get all the footage I need in one go so that I don’t have to set everything back up to try and make it look the same. The sound in the interviews also didn’t record so I had to work around that too, I booked out the audio booth for later on in the week so that I could record the sound again.

Later on in the week me and Georgia went into the audio booth and re-recorded he audio that I needed for my edit. I then transferred this to final cut pro and started my final edit.

I had one major problem at the end of the week, I lost all of my edit that I had been working on and so I had to start my edit all over again. This really set me back and lost me a lot of time with editing, I started my edit again and worked on this throughout the weekend.

Overall this week has allowed me to work around problems that do occur when filming and it has also taught me to be more organised when it comes to shooting- I will learn from this when I am filming my final project. I will also make sure to back up my edit on more than one device. Next week I will finish my edit and upload it to my social media pages.

Week commencing 05/12/16

After starting my edit last week I then made some tweaks and went through my footage a few times to make sure that I had everything that I needed. I added some more transitions, sorted out my multiway camera angles and added credits into my edit. I finished my edit and asked a few people in my class to watch it, I made a few small changes to it. After asking lee for feedback I made a few changes to my edit and then uploaded my POC to my social media pages.

After posting my final POC onto my social media sites I made sure to share it onto my personal accounts too, to make sure people actually saw it. I got a lot of views and responses from people who watched my trailer and so I am happy with how my POC has gone. Next week I will get feedback from my class members and tutors, make any changes needed and evaluate my work.

Week commencing 12/12/16

At the start of the week I went through my edit to make even more changes and tweaks to make it better ready for showing the class on Tuesday. On Tuesday I showed the class my proof of concept and went through any questions that people had and asked for feedback of what I could improve on. I got a lot of good feedback from my class and everyone seemed to enjoy it, so I am really happy about how this went.

On Thursday I acted upon what feedback I was given, I changed some of the editing, the angles of some shots (multiway clips) and changed some of the cutaways to suit the voiceover better. I reflected on the feedback and comments I was given earlier on in the week and thought about what I could do to make it more interesting for the audience.

Overall this week has been about reflecting on my proof of concept and thinking of ways to improve it, I have made a few small tweaks to my work to make it better. I am really looking forward to starting the FMP as it means I can apply these changes and feedback to my work to help me with my final film.
