After having a week off college I have had time to think about who I want to be in my film, at the start of this week I did some more planning of what I want from my film and who I need to be in my film. In my proof of concept I only used one contributor and conducted interviews with them in an intimate interview set up, for my final film I was wanting more than one person or maybe go into schools and speak to some teachers about what they have had to deal with in schools. I think that doing this would allow me to get a wide range of perspectives on the subject of bullying and will allow me to get diversity opinions on it too.
I spent a lot of my time creating more planning and mind maps that helped me generate more ideas and think more about who I could possibly film interviews with and who could help me with contributors. I wanted to do this because although I had some ideas for my film I didn’t have a good firm idea of exactly what type of interview or what type of shots etc I actually wanted in my film and I believe that doing this has helped me generate and creative more ideas for my film, which I am really happy about. For the rest of this week the class were away at Horrorfest and so I didn’t have any time to do anymore planning or pre-production, even though this was a small problem I decided to spend my time wisely by practising with the equipment and different crew member roles.
Spending a few days at Horrorfest allowed me to develop my camera, sound and directing skills, I learnt how to be more of an assertive director and I learnt how to get clearer, crisp audio even when there were people around (public) and noise. It gave me a chance to get to see how others work and the group I worked will worked well together. I learnt that it would’ve been a lot easier to film and we would’ve been a lot more organised if we did more planning in advance, creating documents such as a location recce of the hostel would’ve helped a lot as we didn’t really know what to expect before we got there. Overall this has made me realise that for my FMP I will need to do a lot of planning and pre-production before filming to ensure that everything runs smoothly, everything goes the way I want to and also it will make me more organised and prepared.
I have planned to conduct a focus group for next Monday to get some opinions on my ideas, get some opinions on whether or not I should film in schools and also ask what other shots and ideas could go into my film. I believe this will then allow me to plan out more of my film and start getting my contributors organised, I am feeling very confident that this will get me the answers that I need to be able to decide what I want and what direction I want to take my film in.
Overall this week has allowed me to generate more ideas and plan for the week ahead, I have learnt a lot of new skills from Horrorfest and I will be applying these skills into my work. I am looking forward to doing my focus groups and getting people’s opinions on my ideas next week.

You could add in here the fact that you were at Horrorfest filming – what did you learn? did you get to see how others work and know who to ask for assistance with your film? Did you learn that you need to plan in advance more? Would a recce of the hostel have been a help? Could you somehow link this to your FMP?
